Some of you may have heard the term brood of vipers before. For others you may not have any clue what I am talking about. The term is used several times in the New Testament Bible; once by John the Baptist and twice by Jesus. The term is referring to a family of snakes. Snakes have significance in the Bible going all the way back to Genesis in the Garden of Eden. The sneaky snake tricked Even into eating the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The snake in the Garden of Eden was used by Satan to disguise himself.
Genesis 2:17 New American Standard Bible
17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for on the day that you eat from it you will certainly die.”
In the New Testament, snakes again are mentioned, but by the term is now brood of vipers or family of snakes. When John the Baptist uses the term towards the Pharisee and Sadducees, it is meant to be a derogatory term describing their behavior just like the snake in the Garden of Eden. Evil, cunning, Satanic behavior that is being used by the Pharisees and Sadducees to trick and deceive people. The Pharisees and Sadducees were the religious leaders when the book of Matthew was written. These men would be in a similar position to a pastor.
Matthew 3:7 New American Standard Bible
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Later on in Matthew we hear Jesus again using the phrase brood of vipers several times to describe the Pharisees and Sadducees. This is significant because Jesus is basically calling the church leaders demonic and killers of men. Vipers will kill with their poison if it is makes their way into the body. A family of vipers shows that not only are we dealing with one single evil individual, the anti-Christ, but we are in fact dealing with multiple people who are the anti-Christs. Below are the verses in Matthew where Jesus speaks to the brood of vipers.
Matthew 12:34 New American Standard Bible
34 You offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, express any good things? For the mouth speaks from that which fills the heart.
Matthew 23:33 New American Standard Bible
33 You snakes, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell?
Skip ahead two thousand years to present day and we will find ourselves with the brood of vipers hiding behind some pulpits and serving on some elder’s boards. These fabricators of lies and deceivers of truth are the anti-Christs that John the Baptist and Jesus spoke of thousands of years ago. The brood of vipers has not disappeared, but the family of snakes has multiplied and planted itself in many churches. When the viper is teaching the sheep, the flock will be poisoned. Poisoned in this situation is mainly done by distorting Bible truths, creating lies and adhering to demonic propaganda.
Some of the main lies being told from the brood of vipers involves the issues of abortion, homosexuality, education, climate issues, immigration, and many other deceitful lies. These snakes add words to scripture or completely remove Bible passages to alter their meaning. Much of the evil decay generated by these anti-Christs is done to rebel against the word of God. If you have read my book, you already know what key words and phrases that these manipulators use to deceive. As always, guard your heart by reading your Bible and cling to the words of God that are truth. Dismiss any words of man that are counter to the teachings of God. Any words in direct conflict with the Bible should be rebuked as venomous lies from the brood of vipers.
