The battle we must fight begins in the four walls of the church. Since many church leaders don’t have the stomach to pick up their cross and go out into the world, they expect political leaders to do their bidding. I find it repulsive when church leaders refuse to engage in politics. Wake up! Everything is political when measured with biblical expectations. When someone says that they don’t want to be political, it just means that they are too chicken to speak the truth.
When secular politics gets ugly, church leaders as well as many Christians have selective situational outrage. They take to their social media accounts and gossip circles to bash the politician that didn’t follow the biblical standard of the issue. You name it, abortion, traditional family issues, immigration, taxes, etc. These people take so highly to their interpretation of the issues but will always follow the nonconfrontational approach when face to face with the issue.
These chickens make a lot of noise complaining, but will never make the arrows point at them. They conveniently leave the issues out of church sermons, Bible studies, work conversations and other circles where they could be engaged with people who have a polar opposite view. When divisive issues come knocking at their front door they will not open their mouths to defend their stance but instead point fingers at political candidates that actually have skin in the game. These people refuse to have the battle on their door step.
The battle needs to happen in church
The battle of truth needs to happen in church. I don’t care who it offends or how many pew warmers leave because of it. Church should not be a happy house of entertainment. Issues that are important to God as laid out in the Bible should be addressed with the upmost importance inside the church walls. So what if people get offended and leave? It is more important to speak the truth in what ever measure of love that you deem appropriate. The Bible clearly does not expect us to be quiet. Jesus himself instructed his disciples to go out into the world and share the Gospel. Part of sharing the Gospel is explaining what sin is and why we should remove it from our lives.
I don’t want to hear another Christian attack our political leaders in a passive aggressive, nonconfrontational way unless they are prepared to have the same conversations within their homes and church walls. If you are too big of coward to get into the battle, then keep your mouth shut and don’t engage. The world needs more Christians and church leaders that are not afraid to take the political battle inside their four walls. Our witness to the world needs to be consistency in our message and consistency in our actions.
It is time that we all equally take the arrows shot by the secular world. We need to put on the full armor of God. Stand up for what is right. Live out the Gospel in truth, love and without fear. Don’t make church a comfort zone for cowards.
The Armor of God New American Standard Bible
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having belted your waist with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having strapped on your feet the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
