Hive mentality is a behavior where the individual generally has the tendency to fall into group decision making instead of being able to think on their own. Christians are no different when it comes to hive mentality than any other group of people. Just look at the structure of so many different denominations and churches. There are so many different flavors of churches because one queen bee broke off on their own to start a new hive. Look at all of the different church leaders that developed their own hive congregations over the years. Joseph Smith (Mormonism), Martin Luther (Lutheranism), Francis Mackemie (American Presbyterian), John Wesley (American Methodist), all founded a different religious organization.
When these men set out to create their own religious sect, they created a different hive so to say. The hive acts as its own entity, conditioning the members of the hive to think and act in a certain way. Many times, the congregation willingly goes along with the hive because that is what the group is doing. People fall into place just because leadership told them to. People don’t think for themselves but trust the leadership in their church. When the leadership tells them to believe a certain way, again the congregation blindly follows their lead. This behavior doesn’t create free thinkers, but a cumulation of robots conditioned to get in line.
Where the wheels fall off of the hive is when there is a rebellion within the hive. We are starting to see this frequently because of poor and misguided decision making from leadership in these churches. Instead of staying the steady course and following traditional doctrines, these new leaders of the hive want to relocate the hive. Progressivism is attempting to shift the hive from one point to another. This is being met with resistance as hives are splitting into multiple new hives. Take for example the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA). Two distinctly different doctrines coming from the same hive.
Hive mentality destroys free thinking.
Hive mentality is dangerous behavior because it takes away free thinking and accountability of the individual. The more hives that break apart to create more hives, the more watered down the scripture they claim to follow gets watered down. Most denominations are created because men choose to make bogus rules outside of scripture for their hives to follow. When someone doesn’t like these rules, they break from the hive taking away like-minded individuals.
If only people that claim to be Christian actually followed the scriptures that they proclaim to be associated with, we would have one head of the church and that is Jesus. Every hive broke off from Christ is leading people astray in their own way. Each group has their own twisted doctrine of conformity that isn’t necessary to get anyone into heaven. If anything, these denominations create roadblocks from people getting to heaven. The healthiest form of Christianity is to read your Bible and follow what God says is good and stay away from what God says is bad. Honor your God by faithfully following him through repentance.
If you find yourself in a confused and non-Bible based hive, it is time to jump ship. Being attached to a bad batch of brood will fester more evil doctrine and create more pew warmers without conscience. Think for yourself, learn for yourself and grow your relationship with God, not by following the doctrine of men.
