The Bible tells us to be bold, not weak. Before you throw out the word meek, let me stop you right there and tell you that meek and weak are not the same thing. Being meek means to be gentle and quiet. Being weak is easily eroding under pressure, lacking strength and breaks easy. Now that we have established those two words, let’s get back to being bold. Before I tell you what I think about being bold mean, let’s look at what the Bible says about the word bold. Below are a few Bible verses referencing the behavior of being bold and how the Bible addresses the behavior.
Proverbs 28:1 New American Standard Bible 1995
Warnings and Instructions
28 The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, But the righteous are bold as a lion.
Acts 4:31 New American Standard Bible 1995
31 And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.
Ephesians 3:12 New American Standard Bible 1995
12 in whom we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him.
How do we become bold?
Clearly, we are called to be bold in how we proclaim truth. I can give you lots more verses about being bold, but I think the above theme is pretty obvious. If you look at the Bible, it doesn’t encourage weakness. When it references weakness, it is talking about how God will help you overcome your weakness like in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. What exactly does it look like to be bold? Being bold shouldn’t really be that hard to emulate. Jesus was bold and there are many examples of him being bold in the Bible. If we seek to follow Jesus and act like Jesus, then that requires our behavior to be bold, not weak.
Being bold is needed more now than ever. If you look at the way our culture is declining, it is falling in a similar fashion to Babylon or the Roman empire. Sexual deviance is running amuck, people are wallowing in their own fear and lies are being spoken from everywhere while truth is being swept under the rug. During this political season we need to get actively involved with sharing the Gospel. We need to engage the secular world by being informed about political issues and taking a Bible based stance on whatever the issue is. Since we are called to be bold, hiding on the sideline as a coward isn’t going to work any more.
Whether or not you like it, the world is forcing us more now than ever to be bold. When confronted with lies about life, marriage, immigration, sexuality, whatever the topic is, we need to push back against the secular progressive left and stand firm on the word of God. Obviously confronting lies is not going to be received well by people. As a believer, you are filled with the Holy Spirit, so God has given you the tools to get involved. Every issue that we face is political so we must take a stance. We were not meant for this world; it isn’t our home. With that being said, start acting like we are children of God, and our hope is in Jesus. Get involved in everything political and show the biblical truth in a dark world.
