What exactly does it mean to vote biblically? Just like everything in life, we should always turn to the Bible for answers. The Bible gives us examples of what to follow and how we should form our decisions when selecting leaders to govern over us. There is a standard that God sets as acceptable and there are countless examples of leaders throughout history that do not fit God’s favor. Many times, evil leaders are used to punish people or create a situation of glory when the leader is no longer capable of ruling over people. First, I am going to start out with highlighting some verses that deal specifically with how we are to select our leaders. Secondly, I am going to show examples of evil leaders who inflict pain and suffering on the people whom they rule over.
Just to be clear, God is always in control. Leaders always have a purpose by God’s design and authority. Some leaders reinforce God’s sovereignty by governing in a way that aligns with the Bible. Other leaders may be used for inflicting punishment on a group of people. While we don’t know what God’s reason is for allowing someone to be in a position of power during a certain period in our lives, often further down the road we can see a clearer picture of what God’s purpose was. Many times, people get the leaders that they deserve. Foolish, rebellious, demon possessed individuals get governed by people that mirror their behavior.
I realize that many people across the globe are not in a position where they get the opportunity to choose their leaders. In America, we are blessed to have a choice in our representative, constitutional republic. It is important to vote biblically so that we have representatives that seek to align our country with God’s authority. Candidates with the Jezebel demonic spirit should be voted against at all costs. Exercising your voting rights as a Christian should intently be done to honor God when you vote biblically. Casting your ballot should not be done to seek retain sinful your desires. Yes, it is possible to vote for a flawed candidate if you cast your vote with the intent of honoring God over man. Here are a few verses that speak to how we should select leaders should we be in a position to do so.
Deuteronomy 1:13 New American Standard Bible
13 Obtain for yourselves men who are wise, discerning, and informed from your tribes, and I will appoint them as your heads.’
Proverbs 29:2 New American Standard Bible
2 When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, But when a wicked person rules, people groan.
Psalm 22:28 New American Standard Bible
28 For the kingdom is the Lord’s And He rules over the nations.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 New American Standard Bible
A Call to Prayer
2 First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made in behalf of all people, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
Daniel 2:20-21 New American Standard Bible
20 Daniel said,
“May the name of God be blessed forever and ever, For wisdom and power belong to Him. 21 It is He who changes the times and the periods; He removes kings and appoints kings; He gives wisdom to wise men, And knowledge to people of understanding.
Psalm 146:3-4New American Standard Bible
3 Do not trust in noblemen, In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation. 4 His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; On that very day his plans perish.
Exodus 18:17-26 New American Standard Bible
17 Moses’ father-in-law then said to him, “The thing that you are doing is not good. 18 You will surely wear out, both yourself and these people who are with you, because the task is too heavy for you; you cannot do it alone. 19 Now listen to me: I will give you counsel, and God be with you. You be the people’s representative before God, and you bring the disputes to God, 20 then admonish them about the statutes and the laws, and make known to them the way in which they are to walk and the work they are to do. 21 Furthermore, you shall select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. 22 Let them judge the people at all times; and let it be that they will bring to you every major matter, but they will judge every minor matter themselves. So, it will be easier for you, and they will carry the burden with you. 23 If you do this thing and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all these people also will go to their places in peace.”
24 So Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything that he had said. 25 Moses chose able men out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. 26 Then they judged the people at all times; they would bring the difficult matter to Moses, but they would judge every minor matter themselves.
Vote biblically as to honor God.
Sometimes voting biblically requires the voter to write in a candidate. There may only be disqualified candidates in the eyes of God on the ballot. Other times, highly flawed candidates are on the ballot, but their flaws reflect their lifestyle choices, not the lifestyle choices that they will inflict on the governed. Many leaders are able to set their personal preferences aside and govern by allowing the personal freedom, liberty and free-will choice of their constituents. We should support candidates that will give us the most freedom to choose our own moral compass and religious interpretation as we see fit. Maintaining our constitutional freedoms which allow us to pursue our relationship with God is the most important issue on the agenda that we should vote for.
The Bible gives us many examples of terrible leaders with demonic intents. Sometimes these leaders rise to power as a punishment over the people they govern. Sometimes people are deceived, and other times God uses flawed leaders to show himself. A couple examples of leaders with demonic intents are Jezebel, Herod, Pharaoh, Haman, Nebuchadnezzar II, and Herodias to name a few. These people were in positions of power but used that power for evil and demonic deeds. Murder, torture, sexual deviance, creating false god’s; every evil thing that you could imagine, these people did.
God used these evil leaders for many different purposes. Nebuchadnezzar was best known for throwing Shadrach Meshach and Abednego into a fiery furnace because they refused to bow to him. God showed Nebuchadnezzar that he is ultimately in control of every situation including fiery furnaces. In this situation God put himself into the furnace to protect the men. When witnesses saw the three men, they also noticed a fourth figure in the fire protecting the men. Other leaders like Pharaoh tried to test God and ignore his will through defiance. Pharaoh was met with ten plagues handed down by God to get him to submit to his authority. Herod tried to kill Jesus by ordering the murder of all children under two. God showed his divine authority, and Herod was not permitted to kill Jesus.
Other evil leaders promote demonic agendas, not just behaviors. Take for example Jezebel in the Bible. Jezebel promoted the false god of Baal. Jezebel is also the demonic queen of sexual promiscuity. When in a position of power, rulers such as Jezebel promote evil which is counter to the teachings of God. The modern-day spirit of Jezebel promotes sexual deviance, child mutilation and child sacrifice through abortion just to highlight a few character traits. Instead of political candidates saying one thing and doing another, now evil demonic spirits openly promote their agenda. The culture shift has been numbed to truth and turned into a demonic lie. Many demonic worshipers intently pursue normalizing the demonic behavior by continuing to vote for people that push our culture further to the left.
Vote biblically by showing up.
Christians should vote for the person that represents their conscience. Sometimes the conscience requires them to write in a name. Other times it requires them to vote for the lesser of two evils knowing that one candidate purposely seeks demonic intervention and the other unknowingly is allowing it to move forward through their ignorance. We will all most certainly give an account for how we vote and the political leaders that we choose. There are huge issues at stake in every election. Will our country crawl further down the sewer of evil or will we as a people repent and turn our country back to God? Will God bless our nation with a candidate that turns to him, or will our country be punished and given the candidate that we deserve. If you don’t vote biblically, you will for sure get the later.
I know for a fact that we all have free will. Sitting on your hands is choosing to do nothing to stop a demonic agenda. Staying home is voting for the devil. There is no benefit to good when Christians are disengaged by choosing to let others select who leads them. If you are not going to show up to vote, then why are you showing up on Sunday. If we are going to unify around Christ, we should be unifying our action to point back to him. As far as I am concerned people that choose to step aside and let Jezebel spirits rule our nation are equally as responsible for the outcome as those who intentionally support the behavior. If you want to be part of the Kingdom, then start acting like it.
